Why did you cut your links with Faster EFT?

It has been some years since I’ve been involved with FasterEFT (FEFT and now also known as Eutaptics I believe), but every so often I receive emails from people who have either noticed my absence or seen my videos on the HealingMagic YouTube channel (that I have asked to be removed).

Recently I’ve had two further people contact me. One again telling me how encouraging my story is (from seeing one of these videos) and asking for more advice about how to best apply FEFT (it ‘wasn’t working for them’ but they felt it was the answer after watching my video). The other, received yesterday, said the following:

“I came across your website through FasterEFT. I would be interested to know why you cut your links with Faster EFT. “

I thank people for their questions over the years and have usually responded privately where appropriate, but decided that as my videos are still in the public domain I must write a brief public statement. I also owe this to people who subscribed to this Blog when I was writing about FEFT and to the clients I worked with across the world over Skype using FEFT or elements of FEFT.

Yes, I did cut my links with FasterEFT, some time ago.

When I first found and trained in FEFT, despite having degrees in Psychology, I had little experience of working with clients in this way and I had not previously come across many of the techniques and ideas incorporated into FEFT. I was really impressed by the power of many of the ideas and tools and still am. Over time however, I came to realise that the way in which FEFT was presented, applied, recommended to be used, the advice given to Practitioners and so on, was not something I could subscribe to and in all integrity I could no longer practise it in that way or recommend it. In my experience while elements of FEFT could be used by some individuals and some Practitioners to really good effect, if applied *as suggested* it could also be highly counterproductive for many people.

I have since come to know a range of tools, some elements of which are incorporated into FEFT, and a number of other modalities, which can facilitate excellent “results”, yet without requiring those elements that caused me particular concern within FEFT. I also came to see the extent to which different people may benefit from different types of intervention and that for some people a particular approach, however ‘successful’ for others, may be inappropriate.

One point I would add to this, is that FEFT is far from the only modality that I would consider problematic. I am aware of issues across the full range of approaches both “alternative” and “mainstream”.

Please judge for yourselves.

I have asked for my videos on the YouTube HealingMagic channel to be removed as a) those showing my “story” do not reflect my views or story accurately any more and b) I no longer wish to promote FEFT as the modality of choice. My request was passed on, however, they were never removed. We signed a waver to such material when first attending a FEFT training and the ‘policy’ when I was involved with FEFT was to refuse to remove videos. I therefore assume they will not be coming down (unless something has changed in their policy recently) and I am very sorry that my videos are giving those who watch them the wrong impression. There seems little I can do about that, except to make this statement and try to leave a comment on the videos themselves.

There are MANY people who have left FasterEFT, myself included, it’s just that most are reluctant to speak about why. It’s a challenging conundrum. There are many people still associated with the organization who KNOW the issues, controversies, lack of ethics and sound business practices. (I used to be one.) Unfortunately temporary dramatic changes, money and perceived fame can be a detriment to self-awareness and honesty. Plus the NLP techniques used are very powerful to create a cult-like atmosphere. It took me a long time to do some of the de-programming I needed.

I stopped with it too, my conclusion was it was helpful up till a point because before I had no experience, knowledge and skills at all dealing with traumas and such. So that even something that is incomplete in its knowledge and understanding could help, but only to a degree. At first it helped a lot, but then for a long time it only made me worse, and I later realized through experience with other methods, it was because nobody was taught how to respond in a sensitive enough manner for certain people like myself whose nervous systems were functioning much more poorly than even the average traumatized person. The only skills FasterEFT seemed to have was to be more aggressive which always made thing worse, or they could be a little more cautious in certain ways which were totally not sensitive enough for my system. Basically you have to be lucky enough that the method you are trying is not lacking in a way that really matters to you based upon where you are at currently, and that is a problem with all systems they will have some lacking in some area. It seemed there was a culture of acting like this problem did not exist though which made it worse. Pretending they had all the answers instead of being honest they could help some people and not all.

Hi Robert. Some excellent points here!! That reflects a lot of my experience also. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Alex

    Hi there.
Glad to see this. I even shared a few of these live experiences with you back then.

I too pulled away from all the trainings and refused to engage in any way with some of the grotesque forcing of practitioner onto client.

For me working with any client deserves the utmost sensitivity and client centredness.

My practise is holistic and not technique focussed and sometimes this version of Tapping and NLP are a fine tool.

I’m Blessed to be an avid learner always clearing more of my own shadows that I may be able to bring more light to the client relationship.

It is deeply wrong that videos are held on public domain when the request has been made to remove them.
Regardless of the outrageous waiver of personal data rights in training, integrity and respect can never be witheld.
    With love Alex

Thanks so much for your comment Nuala. At the time of my involvement with FEFT the ‘policy’ was that the video testimonials should be kept on the channel despite the person participating requesting that they be removed – under pretty much all circumstances. (I was actually persuaded for a while that this was the correct approach). I formally requested that my videos be taken down in 2017 and after my second email received a response from the FasterEFT admin that the request had been passed to Robert. My videos have not been removed. I knew the explicit policy had been not to remove videos. I should point out though that I can not speak to the current “policy” in FEFT – maybe something has changed very recently or will.

Even if a decision is taken to respect requests such as this, I feel that it all points to a wider discussion that could be had around video testimonials in general (and not just in FEFT). I have known for a long time that my testimonials no longer reflect the ‘real’ situation, but due to the culture I experienced around this within FEFT felt dis-empowered and completely unsure what to do about it. I’m aware of others who experienced the same.
